The Gothic Frauenkirche on the east side of the main market is one of the three most important churches in Nuremberg. Its balcony, on which the Christmas market is opened every year, and the art clock with the little man walking are world-famous. Every noon at 12 noon, the seven electors entitled to elect the emperor pay homage to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV.Charles IV donated the Frauenkirche in Nuremberg in 1355 as the imperial court chapel. The imperial insignia such as the imperial crown, cloak and scepter were to be kept there. This never happened, but the imperial insignia were shown to the public for the first time in the Frauenkirche on the occasion of the baptism of the heir to the throne Wenzel in 1361.
In 1945 it was almost completely destroyed. Its reconstruction was completed in 1955.
