Father Luis Jayme O.F.M. (Fray Lluis Jaume Vallespir) is considered a co-founder of San Diego mission in California.
Born in Sant Joan in 1740, he was the first Catholic martyr who died in Alta California in 1775.
His statue is mounted on top of the catholic center, built in 1922 in the central square of the town.
