The stone monument was done by Mallorcan artist Tomas Vila, at 200 years anniversary of death of father Luis Jaume.
Father Luis Jaume O.F.M. (Fray Lluis Jaume Vallespir) is the most famous and important person in the history of the township.
Born in Sant Joan in 1740, he was the first Catholic martyr who died under attack in San Diego, California in 1775.
He is considered a co-founder of San Diego mission in Alta California.
