The last day has been a battle of the electronic gadgets. Last night our internet connection pooped out. They said there was an outage but when it was fixed, out router / modem decided to give up the ghost. I spent several hours talking with Xfinity tech support. We tried everything and nothing worked. They arranged for a technician to come out this morning. He arrived at 8:00 as promised. Our router was the problem. It was an old one which we got in 2007. The tech installed a new one, fired it up and made all the adjustments. Voila, we were back in business.
The first customer support guy I talked to figured it was the modem, but to replace it we would have to upgrade our service. I was thinking that this could get expensive, but to my surprise it was about twice as fast and was $7.00 less expensive than our old plan. Good deal, I figured. As we were talking he suggested that I look into Xfinity mobile service. I had been looking to upgrade our existing (AT&T) because we run out of data and get a situation which is unusable because the rate is so low (250kbps). It is like the good old days with a 1200 baud modem. I did some comparison shopping and ended up getting unlimited high speed service from Xfinity for $30.00 a month cheaper than our crappy old AT&T plan and $70.00 cheaper than the equivalent AT&T plan. Sounds too good to be true. The SIM cards come in a couple days and we will see what happens.
