In the pilgrimage church of Santuari de Sant Salvador, there is a multicoloured, carved, wooden Romanesque statue of the Virgin Mary with the child Jesus.
According to the tradition, it was brought from Catalonia by King James I, during the conquest of Mallorca in 1229.
The statue was kept safe in the monastery 3 kilometers from Arta, when the previous chapel had been purposely burnt to the ground following a cholera epidemic.
It is considered one of the oldest Romanesque sculptures in Mallorca.
