Bun Throwing is a 400-year-old tradition in Abingdon that dates back to the Coronation of George III in 1761.
Bun Throwings are held to mark major royal occasions such as coronations, jubilees, marriages, significant royal
birthdays, etc. Since 1761 there have been 37 such occasions, including this year's Coronation of King Charles III.
Local town dignitaries congregate at the top of Count Hall and throw thousands of currant buns specially baked for
the occasion to hoi polloi amassed in the Market Square below.
