Mycena leptocephala

Sol Duc Road, Olympic National Park, Washington

Nitrous Bonnet
Found on conifer debris this dark grey-brown Mycena gets its moniker from its strong bleach smell when crushed. Caps run from 15-35mm in breadth, with pronounced striations and a conical shape. The white and subdistant gills contrast strongly with the dark caps. Stipes are bald, equal and up to about 5cm long. It can be found in spring or fall or even winter in milder climates. Inedible and unpleasant to taste.
