14 Messy Eater

Boulder, CO

We have a lot of backyard wildflowers (we never do any yard maintenance!), and today brought out some bees and flies to feast on whatever the hell it is that they feast on. I took a bunch of shots with my RF 100 macro lens, both on my R7 and my R6II. I think I like this one the best, but I'm going to put some of the others in Exhibition and Pending, in case anyone wants to make the case for swapping this with one of them. I don't think I want to demote any of my other three, so I only have room for one insect on flower picture.

Very very nice.

A toss up with the fly.

We do mow in the front, because there are neighborhood regulations about that sort of thing. We usually have to start around now, depending on how much rain we’ve been getting, and then it gets so hot and dry in July and August that we typically don’t need to. We like to keep the back overgrown, because the cats enjoy it, but we do mow once or twice a year back there. I hate mowing down all the flowers, so we wait until they’ve mostly vanished before the first mowing back there.

Most impressive! It’s a tossup for me between this one and messy II. You make a good argument for this entry.

When you say “never do yard maintenance” does that include not mowing? I need to mow a minimum of 2 times a week this time of year. When the heat turns on come July and August it backs off a touch. Paul
