Due significant moisture and moderately high altitude, varieties of moss and lichens are often found clinging to many trees. Large areas of the parkway run through temperate rain forests helping to create the "smoky" look often seen especially early in the morning. There is a unique beauty in even the smallest things when on the parkway.
