Da Gummi

Kolbenz, Germany

Peter Schneider was a hawker who walked from door to door trying to sell braces, laces and newspapers.
His nickname comes from a certain diesease he suffered from;
a form of neuropathy which affected his way of walking, causing strange looking movements of his limbs.
People were reminded of caoutchouc and therefore named him 'rubber'.

Its a nicely crafted statue, and great that it is dedicated to a less fortunate human being. V

It good to see tributes to local characters, not just heroes.

Cool...must have been quite the character to be so well remembered.... not to be confused with "Gumby" who went from TV to TV selling
