This was a stock press photo from the 1920's used to illustrate an article about a fire on board the ship after being sold off by the Navy.
The Mayflower has a fascinating history, built as a private yacht in 1896 she was purchased by the US Navy in 1898 and modified for naval use.
As the USS Mayflower saw action in the Spanish-American war, in 1905 she was converted to the Presidential Yacht, a roll she had until 1931, she served five presidents (T. Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Harding and Coolidge)
After being sold by the navy in 1931 she changed ownership several times before being acquired by the US Coast Guard at the start of WW2 where she was used for anti-submarine patrols and shipping escort.
Sold off in 1947 she had a couple of civilian owners and names until being purchased by the Israeli Navy in 1950 and was renames INS Moaz, she served as a training ship until scrapped in 1955
