14 Riverside Find

Blue River South KCMO

After dropping my granddaughter off at a nearby spring break camp for the day I choose to drive down nearby Blue River dr and look at the trail by one of the waterfalls I’ve photographed before. I was not impressed so I drove down the road a little further and found a pull off with a walking trail just off the road. Jumped out and took a few photos and still wasn’t impressed so I looked down the bluff at the river and there was a very steep but navigable path down that I suspect fishermen use so down I went.
I was almost down when I spotted this abandoned flat bottom boat and it drew me in and I made a beeline right for it. Originally I was going to focus on Blue River but after discovering the boat I lost interest.

Paulk - nope. We have a formal clean up group that has been active for years. The underfunded USFS views us as being essential.
I spend my volunteer time on Education.

Was a FOMC volunteer with the name of “Jim” delegated to spearhead the Madera Canyon clean up program? Paul

Littering and leaving garbage. Don't get me started.
Our Madera Canyon is clean because the Friends of Madera Canyon have a group of volunteer cleaners. A lot of other National Parks and Forests have support groups that do the same.

I view littering as a gateway crime. Someone who does it just doesn't care. What else don't they care about, and how low will they sink?

I picked up garbage I found around my kids' schools. There wasn't much, but there also weren't many places to dispose of it. Not everyone wants to carry trash until they find a can. The most convenient place at their elementary school was the office. The most convenient place at their middle school was the locker room. The most convenient place at their high school was the senior lounge. Security is tighter now. I'd probably have to take it home.

Sigh...illegal dumping!!!!

Let me say that again.............F*** them!!!!!!!!

Most things in life can be forgiven...illegal dumping, maybe not.

I wish you hadn't told me that story....it did a Post Traumatic memory from last year on my snow Mt Baldy run...there was a family that just shoveled a ton of crap out of there new Mercedes Benz...What the Hell...?

I told them that I was taking down their liscense number and if they didn't pick all that S**** I was calling the police...He had children present...I sensed he wanted to kill me for embarrassing him in front of his children.

Oh I was furious...but also afraid this larger, younger man was going to assault me.

Bad times....(I just quit taking pictures and drove away angry...as was he)

Tenuous decent and ascent is correct. The reason I didn’t spot Travellers new boat until I was almost to the bottom was because my eyes were fully focused on safely making my way down the 40 to 50 feet at I’m guessing about a 60 to 70 degree angle hanging onto tree branches and what not as I went. I didn’t mention the illegal dumping everywhere. Come on KCMO Parks & Rec get a crew or 3 out there and clean up that otherwise beautiful area. Paul

Very good! I like this a lot, low angle of view, good interesting subject....and on a path to personal wealth when you sell the metal bottom boat to me!

I'll put a motor on that sucker and we'll do the Mississippi just like Huck and Jim, just you and me on that strong silent river.
