The fountain of Hercules is an ornamental sculptured fountain in Reus, included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia . Monument located in the center of the square that takes its name. The date of March 1857, the time of its inauguration, appears on the same monument . The mayor Francesc Subirà Parera leveled the garden of the old convent of Sant Francesc, demolished some closing walls, part of the dependencies of the convent of Sant Francesc , turned the area into a public space, and placed the fountain there . According to the Reus historian Pere Anguera , the fountain was made in memory of the title of "striving city" won by Reus in 1843 . The base is a characteristic architectural element of the s. XVIII , while the carving of the figure could very possibly be earlier.
