Exhibition in Grote or Sint Bavo, Haarlem.
In his work Klomp seeks for the tension between the reality of the
everyday, perishable and the physical on the one hand, and the
subjective world of drama and symbolic meaning on the other.
The work is theatrical and narrative. It is mixed with an almost
misplaced humanity and physicality. Silence, vulnerability or
insignificance play their own part. The work evokes universal
empathy or compassion. Yet it has an alienating or even inhumane
setting.
The molten plastic that Klomp uses refers to marble or
brushstrokes. but at the same time is a cheap everyday disposable
product The work Recipient is made up of narrative elements,
but no clear story is told.
What are the relationships between these people?
What do the black figures put so carefully in the hands of the others?
Who gives, who receives?
Klomp likes to leave the interpretation to the viewer.
