Part of the 2002 “Party Animals” exhibit in DC of artists’ decoration of 200 fiberglass elephants and donkeys representing the two major political parties in the US. The University Club bought these two in a post-exhibit auction: “A Party for All,” a Democratic Party donkey featuring the flags of all 50 states plus the District of Columbia on its forehead, and “Grand Old Pachyderm,” an elephant representing the Republican Party (also known as the GOP, or Grand Old Party).
We saw them from across the street when we were searching for a mural supposedly at National Geographic headquarters in downtown DC. After walking around in windy, sub-freezing temperatures and even going in to Nat’l Geo (the employees knew nothing about the mural), I insisted on going over to these two for a picture to make the incredibly chilly outing worth the trouble.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.
