gillies

defintely 'off piste', and deeper into the woods, there is no shortage of growth during winter...these appear to be gillies, or split gill fungi, attached like decorations on a decaying tree stump

Fascinating how these fungi grow in such cold & damp conditions...I mean, I know that's their growing conditions but it just seems so cool that they're thriving when all we want is a bit more sunshine and warmth in the cold grey of January

Surprising how white they are. Nice deep colors around them. V

I have never seen these on a walk in the woods. I will have to be more observant! They show off nicely against the rich wood tones.

I am not familiar with gillies. They do add some interest and contrast to this woodsy scene. V

A beautifully presented image, those leaves on the right really accent the dampness portrayed.

They are very delicate looking especially with the red leaves. An interesting array of textures. V
