Chester is well worth a visit simply to walk around the City walls. This section was only recently repaired, but is still a challenge on an icy morning. Checkout the Welsh hills to see that the horizon is level, so it's the wall that's wonky - but solid!
Bit of a stroll today. These two shots are actually the view the other way. Interesting change in feel depending upon where the wall is placed in the frame...
But lots to see today that spark other thoughts.
Chester has a 'bridge of sighs' - in the late 18th Century you might have seen a prisoner walking across from the gaol to chapel to receive the last rites! The gaol was far from a pleasant place to stay - maybe I'll share more in a future post.
But like many Cities Chester also used to manufacture locally, such as this bridge beam.
And this tower was used to make lead shot (musket balls)!
Finally a simple water tower - Ukraine is currently being bombarded, with a focus on destroying key infrastructure. Imagine your day-to-day life if structures such as this water tower were destroyed. We take so much for granted!
