Ford 1940 V8 Coupe

Marietta, Georgia

With its rugged framework and strong flathead V8 engine, the 1940 V8 Coupe also goes down in history as a beloved workhorse for delivering moonshine in the southeastern United States. Those in “the business” found the model to be the ideal means of transporting goods from the mountains to the big city, staying one step ahead of the dreaded revenuers. With only slight modifications, the car’s large trunk could hold up to 130 gallons of so-called white lightning, and the rear suspension could be strengthened to prevent sagging. There was also speed equipment available to increase the output of the standard 60-horsepower or optional 85-horsepower V8.
