Attempts to break birding Big Year records have become more competitive since it was popularized in several books and a movie in recent years. In 2023, follow along as Nick Komar attempts a new feat: Finding 900 species within the USA and its territories in a single year! Nick recently retired after 25 years as a biologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although battling Parkinson’s Disease since age 38, he still has enough energy and passion for birding to attempt this feat at age 57, which he will document in a blog.
To accomplish this feat Nick plans to take his supporters on a thrilling bird-filled journey to the top birding locations in the USA such as the Florida Everglades, the sky islands of southeastern Arizona, the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, California’s Salton Sea, Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and melting glaciers, Hawaii’s volcanoes, Puerto Rico’s rainforests and many more!!
You can also sign up to join Nick for part of this journey. Check out his 2023 tour schedule in this pbase gallery. For more information, contact Nick by cell/text at 970-449-3645.
