glaciers

Banff NP, Alberta

the Crowfoot Glacier has lost it's claws due to climate change...the Rockies have lost almost 16% of their glacier mass since 2000, and are expected to lose almost all by 2050, as is also the case for glaciers in Yellowstone and Yosemite...this does not bode well for bio-diversity, or water supply

Impressive shot and sobering.
Doug Cruden05-Dec-2022 20:40
Yikes, that's a frightening statistic David :o( But a fab shot of these high mountains
Buz Kiefer03-Dec-2022 21:57
Lovely capture of this gorgeous mountain scene. Very BV
Dennis Hoyne03-Dec-2022 01:09
A beautiful shot! Obviously the climate has been changing for the last four and a half billion years, those are rather young rocks in those mountains, by comparison.
Julie Oldfield02-Dec-2022 19:47
It is frightening how that is happening and how people deny that it is. So majestic and so fragile. V
Walter Otto Koenig02-Dec-2022 16:46
Fascinating how the remains of the glacier seem to cling to that rock face. The numbers are sobering, but evidently not sobering enough for the people in charge.
Marcia Rules02-Dec-2022 14:04
A fine shot that documents such a startling fact.....
Danad02-Dec-2022 09:35
Sad observation, like everywhere in the world... I walked myself on a Bolivian huge glacier in 1978, which totally disappeared now...depriving the inhabitants of the valley of water.

Nicely captured. Sad to see its decline. Saw a lot of the receding glacier in the Alps this year.
Gill Kopy02-Dec-2022 04:53
Cool how the trees frame the glacier. I went up here in 1966 - it looked very different - all very worrying.
Nirvan Hope02-Dec-2022 02:30
A marvelous dramatic image. Also dramatic shifts in the environment that do not bode well.
Nick Paoni02-Dec-2022 00:17
Global warming in action unfortunately.

it's sad to see the glaciers melting. The "mer de glace" near Mont Blanc that I saw in my childhood is rapidly melting ...
janescottcumming01-Dec-2022 21:38
Those are some frightening numbers. Such a beautiful area.
Allan Jay01-Dec-2022 20:07
Jaw dropping beauty!
Wonderful view.
Helen Betts01-Dec-2022 19:48
You got a great shot of the glacier, but it's a frightening narrative.
joseantonio01-Dec-2022 19:14
a nice view from that point.V.

This is a striking shot, but the declining glaciers here (and elsewhere) are a very real concern.
