We had our first hard freeze of the Season overnight October 17th with a low of 21° (-6 Celsius). That shattered the previous record cold temperature for the date (28 degrees) by 7 degrees. The next night was the second killing freeze in a row; being even a few degrees colder. Some of the suburbs here were just 15° overnight.
The "normal" average date of our first hard freeze is November 5th.
So, this freeze happened about around 2 weeks early.

I took as many of my deck plants indoors as I could: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/173081979 Unfortunately, I didn't have room for everything. This freeze killed most of my marigolds and my zinnias that were still flowering outside on the deck. How sad, but that's usually what happens with annuals in the Fall.
