For the November 2022 challenge: Song, Poem, Haiku, Quotation...
The haiku is again by Issa, 1763-1827. The frog is a Northern Leopard Frog.
R.H. Blyth says of this haiku:"Saigyo, 1118-1190, became a monk at twenty-three and travelled all over the country composing waka."
Waka is a much older form of Japanese poetry, and predates Haiku by hundreds of years. Generally it is a 5-7-5-7-7 syllable poem. Chop off the last two lines of 7 syllables each and you have the haiku!
