My husband and I got our flu shots.
Although we had to get a different vaccine than we would have preferred, we did as the CDC has been saying and got what was available. That will still protect us.
However, after the pharmacist had given me my shot, she started to leave. That's when my husband asked her "what about" his shot, too. We had an appointment for both of us. For a moment she looked confused and asked his name. When he told her, she looked at her paperwork & saw that she had given me his shot. When we assured it that it was no big deal since we were both getting the same flu shot, she was greatly relieved to say the least. Opps. No harm done. But it really did scare the pharmacist when she realized that she had given a shot (labeled for a different patient) to someone else.
Overall, she was a very good pharmacist in taking all kinds of mask and good hygiene precautions and in giving an ouch less shot. Without the mix up, I would rate her one of the best. Since the mix up did absolutely no harm, I can't say much negative. She even showed me the original vial with the flu shot (which I couldn't read without my glasses) to assure that it was the proper vaccine.
However, if we had been getting different shots for different things (or if the vaccine had been the wrong one), I can see this being a serious situation. Fortunately, in our case, it wasn't. After the pharmacist recovered from her shock that I wasn't the patient on her paperwork, she got and then gave my husband his flu shot. Same shot. We then just exchanged paperwork.
You hear about mix ups sometimes happening. I'm sure this pharmacist will now be more than extra cautious going forward. She was top notch otherwise. And in our case, it was no big deal. My husband eventually got his flu vaccination, too. Same shot; however, different paperwork for each individual.
Anyhow, we're now both as well protected (as can be) against this Winter's surge of some of the current respiratory viruses gong around. Flu is already bad in the US early in the season: https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/04/health/flu-rsv-virus-activity-ramps-up/index.html
Plus, COVID may again throw another curve ball for the World: https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/20/health/variants-covid-winter-surge/index.html
