This pedestrian bridge over the Reedy river in Greenville, is named in honor of Eugenia Duke who started the Duke Sandwich Company during WWI. Soldiers were arriving in Greenville to train at Camp Sevier and she wanted to give them a taste of home.
In 1923, in addition to her highly sought-after sandwiches, Eugenia Duke began bottling her acclaimed mayonnaise recipe in the building now known as the Wyche Pavilion. The footbridge is in close proximity to the Wyche Pavilion and a fitting tribute to her business achievements.
