'Jolie' means "pretty" in French, and this hibiscus flower lives up to its name. It is a large 7-9" single in a vivid fuchsia pink with a softer pink edge and frosty white "breath" in a halo around the eye zone. Father 'Dragon's Breath' contributed genes for the "breath" around the eye, and for the deep color. Mother 'Saffron' brightened the dark red into a vivid fuchsia and gave 'Jolie' a strong, sturdy, lush, pretty bush. Released from HVH in 2012. Hybridizer: C. Black

It's been a crazy October with hibiscuses blooming outdoors.
Every single day, so far this month, new flowers have opened on a wide variety of named plants.
I have more hibiscus in bloom at the same time now than I did all Summer long.

This photo is my "flower of the day" pick for October 14th.
To get ahead of things, (in anticipation for a killing, hard freeze on October 17th), we've been gradually moving those hibiscus - currently not in bloom - into the Solar Room.
However, most of the hibiscus (that are currently in bloom) are still outdoors; providing us with October color in a drab landscape. Sadly, it will soon be time to bring all of these other hibiscuses (and my petunias) indoors, too. That will then be the end of outdoors growing season for us. One or two more nights at most.
