Brahmaswam Madham

Vadakke Madham Brahmaswam has a history that can be traced back to half a
millennium. it's a traditional school in which its students aged between 7 and 12
learn Ancient Vedic texts orally. This is probably the only place where this oral technique has survived.
The students make no notes and teachers do not write down anything.
With this method, the students learn the complete ancient text of
Rig Veda originally composed in India between
1700 BC and 1100 BC. Students memorize about 1000 hymns consisting of 432,000 syllables.
By the time students leave they have memorized the entire
Rig Veda and are able to chant its recital anywhere within its cycle.

It's a residential school with currently 31 students and 9 teachers. The student
and teachers come from the Namboodiri Brahmin community of Kerala, India.
The school is located in the heart of Thrissur, KERALA, India.

It is the only surviving school ( Madhams or gurukuls) out of the four
established by disciples of Hindu Philosopher Adi Shankaracharya.

The lighting and mood are outstanding. The added text provides information that greatly enhances the power of this capture and the understanding of tradition. A masterful capture!! VVV

Great shot. The ancient ways are passing away. Good information!

This is so interesting - hopefully it will keep on going. And, what a great shot of these two young children, totally absorbed. BV
