Monument to the Icelandic Horse

A potent symbol of Iceland’s past, when the horse was the Icelanders’ only means of overland transport.
The mare carries planks of wood on one side and packages of goods on the other side.
Her foal follows along.

not just a pretty face then, but also a contributing member of the community...those long planks look an unwieldy load...it seems Mum is not only hardy, but adept at multi-tasking..

How nice to see the Icelandic horse honored in such a public way. Looks like they had a hard life at one point in time. V.

An interesting monument. Sure, shows the value of the horse during past settlement times.
