Old pub built in 1843. Still has a 200m long tunnel from the cellar to a wharf to illegally provide sailors for whalers that operated out of Sydney.
The publican provided free beer, drugged the sailors then locked them in shackles in the cellar and brought them across via a tunnel to ships in the harbour that were about to sail. The sailors woke on board the ship after it had left Sydney. Low or no cost labour. Kidnapping no longer practised, but with a current shortage of skilled labour ...
