We spent the day in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with our friends Chip and Margaret. The four of us were room mates for a while in graduate school. We had a great day and evening with dinner at the Eastern Point Yacht Club. We toured around the peninsula and had a nice hike at Halibut Point State Park. Avery enjoyable day with people we have know for fifty years.
Today's photo is of a Fresnel Lens which was once installed in the south lighthouse on Thacher Island. Its design was different from most of the lenses (big and small) that I have seen because it has no bullseye panels which focus the light into a beam. It is designed to send out light in all directions and isn't required to be rotating. Pretty cool device. I would like one in my living room.
