Wasp mimic hover fly (Spilomyia fusca)

Larose Forest

For the August Challenge -"It Caught My Eye".

This is a pretty good mimic of the Bald-faced Hornet! It caught my eye because I was looking for this species and as always, had to look twice to make sure it wasn't a wasp.

It looks like a wasp to me. I guess that means that this bug's DNA is smarter than I am. :(
