Les sources sacrées de Tirta Empul sont situées dans le centre de l’Ile.
Les balinais pensent que ces sources aux vertus curatives ont été crées par le dieu Indra. Ils viennent en famille se purifier dans les deux bassins sacrés.
Le rite de purification consiste à se présenter successivement sous chacune des « trompes » qui bordent le bassin.
