"Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease official, will step down from heading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in December, he said in a statement released on Aug. 22. Fauci, 81, said he would also leave his role as chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden. Fauci has served as NIAID director since 1984—under seven presidents."
"The drug pathways he pioneered for HIV helped to speed up trials of new COVID-19 vaccines and antiviral therapies during the pandemic. But Fauci has also faced politically motivated ire for his work. President Donald Trump—who actively undermined the scientific process, attacked Fauci’s expertise and character, and flirted with firing him at the behest of his supporters—made him a target within months of the pandemic starting in 2020. Since then, Fauci has endured death threats against him and his family and has used something he never had before: personal security. Yet Fauci endured, saying he never thought of leaving his role advising the government on COVID-19. For a public-facing infectious disease expert who’s devoted his life to public health, 'if there is one challenge in your life you cannot walk away from, it is that most impactful pandemic in the last 102 years, he told TIME in 2021."
In a statement, Biden highlighted Fauci’s dedication and breadth of knowledge of infectious diseases. 'I’ve been able to call him at any hour of the day for his advice as we’ve tackled this once-in-a-generation pandemic,' Biden said. 'The United States of America is stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of him.'” Time

"Fauci spent his 38-year tenure as NIAID director leading pivotal efforts to research new and reemerging diseases and develop tools for protection. He advised seven different U.S. presidents, beginning with Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, on infectious disease threats like HIV/AIDS, the West Nile virus, the anthrax attacks, pandemic influenza, Ebola and Zika. In the lab, his groundbreaking research extends as far back as the late 1960s. Fauci, then in his 30s, discovered how to re-dose cancer drugs in a way that turned the 98% mortality rate of vasculitis — a rare inflammatory disease where your blood cells attack your blood vessels — into a 93% remission rate.
In 1980, Fauci was appointed chief of the NIAID'S Laboratory of Immunoregulation, a position he still holds today. There, he helped pioneer the field of human immunoregulation, which refers to understanding how to regulate the human immune system's response to bacteria, viruses and other harmful substances.
As the NIAID director, Fauci has overseen an extensive portfolio of research on preventing, diagnosing and treating infectious diseases from HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases to respiratory infections and diarreheal diseases, among others. NIAID also supports research on transplantation and immune-related illnesses.
Fauci also helped accelerate the development of the first Covid vaccines. He and other NIAID researchers partnered with drugmaker Moderna to create its shot, which has an efficacy rate above 90%, in less than a year. Today, Fauci continues to laud vaccines and booster shots as an effective protection method, often fighting directly against disinformation fueled by a national anti-vaccine movement that's only grown since the Covid pandemic started." Starting January 2023, what then?
COVID is still considered as being a Worldwide pandemic.
Too many Americans are still dying or else being left with lifelong, COVID induced, serious illnesses.
New Pandemics also lurk just around the corner.
Who will have the knowledge and experience to replace Fauci in seeing America move forward?
The CDC has let us down... COVID (now the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA) continues to kill at least 400 Americans daily. PLUS, it infects a guesstimate of over 100,000 a day. At least 1 in 5 of those infected will then suffer from long term health conditions and disabilities from LONG COVID; including those who have been vaxed and boosted. The US needs a strong head of NIAID to be able to successfully navigate the health future of this country. Will we have it without Fauci??? Guess we'll find out.
