P8190161DxO "Flagging" Bite Close Up

The monarch caterpillar bites the underside of a leaf stem so it will fold down and the caterpillar can hide under it. (Highly unlikely with these skinny swamp milkweed leaves and fat caterpillars)

The end near the bite is not the head!
