Strategic Housing

Back in early July, my wife filled this old grain bag with scrap wood from inside the barn and left it at the edge of the yard for me to dispose of.
But before I could get to it, a pair of House Wrens discovered it and decided it was a good place to build a nest.
The adults are currently busy popping in and out, shuttling food to the little ones inside.
If you look closely above the horse head on the bag you'll see the shadow of an adult wren inside with its beak protruding out the top of the bag.
A few weeks back I went to have a peek inside. Bad move. One of the wrens came shooting up out of the bag and brushed past my face.
I really wish I could get a look at the little ones but they are well concealed within.

So nice that you delayed throwing it away. I hope you can get a chance to see some activity from them in the near future.

Now that's the most unique "nest box" I have ever seen! Catching the shadow was brilliant.

Great documentation of the wrens' repurposing of your waste. The shadow and head poking out are fantastic!

clever and resourceful parents then...the wren's shadow is a cool catch, and breathes life into both image and marvelous story...best to respect the bird's warning too...parents always have the right to protect their babies..
