A few years ago an asclepias syriaca, common milkweed, showed up amidst my very formal landscaping, and I invited it to stay, and it spread out a lot, all the time fighting for its life against groundhogs.
The year I planted lots of oregano, having read that groundhogs don't like it, and would you believe that did the trick. Munching on milkweed stopped and the plants grew huge.
I had allowed the milkweed to proliferate because I wanted to help monarch butterflies, and this morning when I saw holes in some of the leaves I knew someone had been munching, so I turned up a leaf and found this gift.
Shots with my Olympus EM10 ii were largely out of focus due to camera shake and shallow depth of field, so I switched to my phone whose shutter I could release with a voice command, "Shoot"...I I get reasonable results.
