We had a little time in St. Louis before visiting our friends the Schwaabs. It was decided that we would visit the St. Louis Art Museum (SLAM). It is free, but parking is fifteen dollars. Our alotted time was a little over an hour. For me, that was plenty. Although I had a walk through some of the galleries, I spent some time in their small Egyptian collection. The piece that caught my attention was this faience (ceramic) ring attributed to Akhenaten. He was a controversial pharaoh who instituted the monotheistic religion and reigned from 1352 to 1327 BC. Upon his death, Egypt returned to their traditional religion and all the priests went back to work. We visited his city of Amarna on the Nile. He is better known as the father of King Tut Ankh Amun.
