13 RPG

“Red Purple Green”, not the other RPG you might be thinking about.

I did something like this several years back using the 6D. I wondered if I could recreate it using a iPhone. So it turns out there is a app for that.

If I was pushy, I'd suggest a re-creation with the lights on.

What I did was I let the headband strap out all the way then after starting the app 10 second countdown timer I ducked down and started spinning the headlamp in circles slowly lowering the lamp to get full coverage on the sensor. Since the phone was in the selfie mode I could see the image developing before my eyes and adjust as needed.

In my opinion the key to this being successful was the app and having it in a pure dark non reflective environment. Couldn’t really do a video since it was literally black dark down there. Having my old black muslin was handy too since it does not reflect any light. I’ll take a photo of the headlamp and post it in pending. Paul

This is really cool. I would have enjoyed (and learned from) video of you creating it. Did you swing or twirl the LED headlamp?

I almost didn’t enter this image because before I mirrored it to my eye it wasn’t all that appealing. I turned it sideways, diagonal, reversed, cropped nothing made it jump out at me. Then I wondered about PS Express and started to play and found what I felt might be the answer. Paul

Work and creativity - what a wonderful combination. And the final result shows it.

Well, maybe a lot of work to create this...but this is why you are Paul the magnificent....always great work from you...startlingly good. Traveller

I kept the black muslin backdrop I used to use and clamped it to my basement floor joists and covered the window so it was pitch black. I grabbed my old work (now camping) headlamp which has a red, green and white LED lamps on it that I can switch on individually. I kept the color gel’s I had and used a combo of colors to get the purple to cover the white LED

I have a app called Slow Shutter that gives me full control like a dslr including an adjustable delay to open the shutter. The app also allows me combine multiple captures. Propped the phone up against my bench grinder, put in selfie mode and ran three 10 second captures, one for each color at iso 100 f2.2 23 mm “light trail mode” while spinning the headlamp. Then mirrored the image in photoshop express, boosted the vibrancy slightly, resized and now you know what I know. Paul
