The original plan for the day was a day trip in a boat around Lake Clark. Unfortunately for that idea, the wind was high and the waves were high. It would have been uncomfortable. So we went to Plan B which was a day hike up to Tanalian Falls which is not far from the Farm Lodge. It was a pleasant hike through the woods with a stop for lunch at the falls. We did encounter a bear on the trail, but it high-tailed it out of there before I could see it. Our guide was carrying a .44 magnum just in case.
We stopped at a beaver pond, but no beavers were in sight. Once at the falls we took some pictures and had a nice sack lunch. Back at the Farm Lodge we took a hike to the beach. It was still windy. When we got back to our cabin I checked my iPhone and found we went 6.9 miles for the day. There were some ups and downs along the way and the falls were 400 feet above the lodge.
Today's photo was taken at the top of Tanalian Falls. It is quite a big falls. All that water is coming from snow melt within fifty miles. It is crystal clear.
