Although the road up into this quiet meadow in the Wasatch Range typically opens the second week in June, you can hike up the 3 mile trail to the lake and forest in May. Go early before sunrise and you will not likely see another person and have the lake and aspen grove to yourself. There is nothing like the first light on the top of Mount Timpanogos, trout jumping out of the lake, the sounds of birds in the trees, and if you are lucky, you might get to see a mother and baby moose. It is beautiful.
Because this is one of my favorite places to visit in springtime, I know I could take some photos that would provide reference for my landscape painting hobby. One of my recent paintings was of a photo I took on this trip, and there will be another that will be painted coming from this scene.
