Ocellated Lurcher

Yoma algina
Looks like the butterfly in the previous image?
If you think so, you are excused. The difference eluded Australian butterfly experts until 2016, when it was realised that a population held in a butterfly farm was different.
Whereas the Lurcher (Yoma sabina) occupies rainforest and vine-thicket edges, the Ocellated Lurcher is a rainforest interior species and has a different caterpillar foodplant.
Within Australia, the Ocellated Lurcher occurs only in remote rainforests on Cape York Peninsula. It also occurs in New Guinea.

How very interesting. It sounds like this species has a pretty remote location. V

the shades of brown are paler in this one, with a hint of melting milk chocolate, giving it s lighter presence...perhaps living remotely has helped with it's evolution, and survival..
