It Ain't Necessarily So...

It ain't necessarily so
The things that yo' li'ble
To read in the Bible
It ain't necessarily so
.
Methus'lah lived nine hundred years
But tell me who, who calls that livin'
When no gal is given
It ain't necessarily so
^^^^^^^^
See Joshua 6:21

They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

Someone is mapping out my future....lol

Maybe with luck

https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2022-05-12/california-expats-portugal-relocation-lisbon

But I remember the very true line from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension...

"remember, no matter where you go, there you are"

The point being, I think, that if a problem there be, they problem is in me and not my location.

Shrug....lol

Re Pro Bono work in CA. See https://www.calbar.ca.gov/Access-to-Justice/Pro-Bono/FAQ

"While the State Bar suggests 50 hours of pro bono activity annually, even a few hours may have extraordinary positive impact on underserved individuals and groups. The goal is aspirational - not a requirement."

I read somewhere once that the Bar specifies all attorneys need to provide 50 or so Pro Bono hours annually. Who knows, in reality it might be well beyond that and then comes CEUs.

I can relate a little to what you are experiencing with work.
I was lucky and my "last career" was as a consultant. I wound down my work life after 65 by going gradually from full to part time. I assisted the transition by raising my prices. I don't know enough about the work side of a lawyer, but I would think that a price increase would assist the decline in business.

In the Fullness of Time We can Hope...I am sincerely trying to retire, (I think), maybe by Christmas. Traveller

T - you and I should get together one of these days. I would enjoy some good philosophical discussions with you over a glass of wine or two. I am far from a religious traditionalist and we could have some fun discussions.

I suppose I could have used a pencil or some other kind of pointer, but considering the text, it seemed appropriate to use the dagger, ( which parenthetically is it illegal to carry concealed in California),

Be that as it may, I have had some history with Jericho in that when I attempted to visit shortly after my Christmas days in Jerusalem, I was stopped about 50 meters from entering the city by a bullhorn ordering me to stop, and about 10 Shin Bet agents were clearly aiming their weapons at me and in this late December cold, I was forced to leave my vehicle and largely strip down and lay on the ground to prove that I did not have an explosive vest on me.

They eventually approached to search me and my vehicle and my baggage. Interestingly, in this large entrance-way to Jericho that seem like a car park as much as anything. I was the only person there during my entire detainment. I still don't know what was going on and I never got into Jericho deciding instead to head up to North shore of the Sea of Galilee where Jesus gave his Sermon on the Mount which also proved to be an unusual experience. I was completely alone there despite the large church/monastery behind me and yet, like in a Disney movie, birds were tweeting and flying about me as almost dreamscape miracle.

This was very different for this non religious person who had fled Jerusalem to avoid becoming a religious zealot himself, (enough time in Jerusalem will do this to a person!). However non-religious I may be, I still find myself baptizing people in Peter and Paul's prison deep in the underground of Rome and doing things like this, so it's hard to say what is going on with me in these regards.

PS Jim, thank you for the aging of the paper version, but I think I will even eventually go with the lighter version...it is also to be noted that the paper in this New International Cultural Reference Bible is not white.

PPS I will lastly note that the killing of the Canaanite children so they can go to God without sin, does not work for me. Nor the idea that the Canaanites had 400 years of God telling them to straighten up and they did not, so their fate was justified...also does not work. Lastly, the idea that Joshua had no choice in that this was a direct order from God, seems fatally flawed as a justification.

A sword I might, might have picked up on but a knife is a long way from being a sword, hence my confusion. Call me zebra mussel. Wonder if I can change my screen name to that. Paul
Canon Image Challenge30-May-2022 03:51
Paul - good ideas on the lighting.

Re knife - the biblical text refers to every living thing in the city destroyed with the sword. T quoted that in his notes here. I didn't know that either.

Consider adding another candle or two and wine glasses with water to add some refractive light elements to breakup the flat light look. Play with the distance of the candle to the glass and glass to the book to change the effect to your liking.

I openly admit I’m about as educated and cultured as a zebra mussel so please help me understand the purpose of the knife as it relates to this scene. Paul

T - see pending for a first crack at adding texture to the paper.
I think I like the original better, though I have other papers I could play with.

Great - your captured the candle lit mood. Rather than change the color, how about adding some texture to the paper.
I saw some tutorials on doing that with Photoshop.
I may try it just for the heck of it and practice.

It is candle lit...I have three of them and the idea was a wider angle showing all of them but then, you couldn't read the text...so I chose a tighter shot...I'll post the wider image in Exhibition....T

It is definitely a warm look. I first thought of it being candle light.

I wanted a parchment.y sort of look...but I might play with color balance on this a little latter...a mite too much yellow I think....we'll see. Best Wishes, Traveller

Good idea and composition for a song that is tough for me to envision what to shoot.
