Today was the start of our sixth week on the road. It was a day in the park at Great Basin National Park. This is the 59th (of 63) that we have visited. It is really out in the boondocks. The great basin is an area where none of the precipitation drains by rivers to the sea. It is all kept internally and either evaporates, is used by humans or percolates down to the aquifers. It is a huge area which includes most of Nevada and parts of Oregon, California, Utah and Idaho. The National Park is a small area near the center.
We started the day with a tour of Lehman Cave. It was pretty good. There were some formations which we hadn't seen before like the parachute shields and the turnips. So it comes in the upper half of caves we have toured.
After lunch the ojective was a hike to Stella Lake. It was a pretty easy round trip of 2.4 miles. We hung around the Lake for a while and took some photos and just relaxed enjoying the great view of Mt. Wheeler on the other side of the lake.
So the photo today is the usual park sign photo. This was a good one because we got lucky with the light and there was a nice mountain in the distance.
