"Rudolph" 5-13-22

An Unusual Color

I'm very happy that the first one of my new (2022) starter hibiscus is already producing flowers. However, I'm a bit perplexed as to why they are this color. The flowers are quite beautiful, but they aren't red; like the hybridizer claimed http://www.hiddenvalleynaturearts.com/info/rudolph.htm

Gorgeous colors and clarity and the subject shows so well against the black background.

It's beautiful in any case, and a well detailed capture of it.

Each hibiscus variety has its own genetics that determine which pigments and what colour range it can produce. Temperature, sunlight, pH and nutrition can all affect the levels of different pigments in a flower and the color at which they appear. Anyway I like the tones of this one between pink, orange and soft red...
