The original plan for the day was a kayaking adventure in the Channel Islands National Park. Because of high seas, the expedition was cancelled, so it was plan B, a trip up to Santa Barbara which is about an hour away. We took a trolley tour of the town which was well done. After that we went to the Mission Santa Barbara for a visit which included a self guided tour. It was interesting. This mission, along with twenty others, were established along the length of California in the late 1700s. This particular building is the fourth incarnation. It was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1925, but was restored to its original appearance in the following two years.
We headed back to Ventura with a stop at the Mission San Buenaventura for a self guided tour. This one was established by Father Junipero Serra, a Franciscan Priest and Missionary known for (controversially) his interest in protecting the indigenous people from abuse by the Spanish soldiers.
Today's photo is of the Mission Santa Barbara.
