Cais dos Colunas

These columns mark the start of the marble steps which originally lead up to the Riberia Palace.
They were part of the city’s reconstruction after the earthquake.
The architect was Eugeneio dos Santos.
The two columns are replicas of those thought to have been in Solomon’s temple.
They are representative of wisdom and devotion.
