Lake Powell Before The Drought

Arizona

Information regarding the extreme low level of water currently in Lake Powell has been on the news frequently lately. I thought I would go back through my files to see if I could find a Lake Powell image to post that I had not already posted. This image was photographed from a tour boat and the water was about 20+ feet low even in 2015. If I shot this exact image today, I doubt there would be any water showing from this angle. I always felt this part of the shoreline and rock formations was one of the most dramatic and beautiful views on the lake. It is heartbreaking to see what is happening.

Such a magnificent lake strickened by climate change and now in a predicament...hopefully melting snow from adjacent mountains will refill the reservoirs...
a remarkable crisp capture showing the lake's vivid blue waters and amazing rock structures in excellent light...V

Those rock formations are pretty spectacular. The water color is a beautiful contrast to the rest of the scene. Very sad about the drought. V

Une formidable photo de ce splendide paysage et sur l'urgence d'agir avant qu'il soit trop tard! V

A beautiful image, we are having the opposite problem here now, flooding due to the excessive rains.

Beautiful image. I've never been there. Sad to hear about the low levels.

A beautiful image of the colorful rock formations enhanced by the deep-blue water. Sad that the drought has and is lasting so long.

that was attractive at this stage, with the lake providing that rich blue...what a disaster now though, with so many people dependent on the ever diminishing supply of water..

Yes, it's quite a scary situation. More people are moving here with no regard for the future. I'd leave tomorrow if I could decide where to relocate...

It’s terrifying. I lived in Vegas for a while and it has doubled in size since I lived there. Lake Mead is drying. The photograph is beautifully layered with striking color. V

Love how the blue water of the lake anchors this amazing scene. The story unfolding here unfortunately is a sad one as the awful drought in our Southwest continues.
