The tall trees are theirs on the property line. The Blue Spruces are in our yard.
Because of the natural contour of the land, the original homeowners (who moved away just 6 months after we built) chose to build their house at the highest spot on their property. That obviously ended up being very close to the property line. They were the first house on the block.
Not wanting to be right against the neighbors (although they were the nicest people), we decided to not to build on the highest point of our property. If we had built on the "highest point" (like the neighbor did), our two houses would have been right together with adjoining driveways. However, we bought a lot with acreage to be able to have more "room" than with most regular suburban developments. So, we built "lower". Although we've had the same neighbors for most of the time we've lived here, I consider this more than close enough to next door neighbors. These are the folks who feed the wild deer.
Despite not building on the highest point at the property line, our house does sit a little higher than the rest of our large yard; which slopes even more downward toward the stream. Anyhow, the contour of the land is why these two houses are so "close" together: despite all homes in the development having sizable 3 acre - or bigger - lots.
To the West, we can't even see our other next door neighbor's house from our backyard. That family also built on the highest spot on their lot. That put them really far away from us... Their front driveway is quite steep due to the hilly lay of the land.
Anyhow, this image is of something that is "everyday" because I see this view every day.
