Black-capped chickadees

Ottawa West

Excavating nest holes. The old birch snag is not going to stand for long, and the bottom cavity (hole) has no bottom to it. However, they were happily working away!

Super shot Christine. At first glance, I thought they were building a two-story townhouse. With a floorless bottom, the lower Chickadee is per hasps just practicing???

Love the POV an excellent light. Maybe they just broke through the bark on the tree. Very interesting! V

Interesting but like others have said, a puzzle.

Looks like they are helping to knock the tree down!

Wonderful perspective of these two. Like Don, I am also a bit puzzled at what I see here. "V"

Can a Chickadee make a hole like that on its own? They don't look to have the bill for it. And why two holes? (Sorry, questions, questions.)

Oops! looks like they may have been too industrious.

They do look very industrious in your great capture. V.
