Short-billed Dowitcher molting
This bird has partially molted the scapulars, showing the richly-barred feathers of the subspecies migrating and wintering in coastal Alabama (L.g. hendersoni). Underparts chestnut is just starting to appear. Note the thick distal bill, a subtle separation point from Long-billed; a better point is the body shape, less humped in the back in feeding position than Long-billed.
