The Pont Nou is one of the most symbolic and renowned landscapes in Camprodon, the most popular image of the town that has become a true icon of Catalan mountain tourism.This single-arch bridge, built of stone during the 12th century according to the documents found, was a place of passage to go to La Cerdanya.Popularly called “Roman Bridge” or “Romanesque”, it is called Pont Nou in opposition to the Pont Vell (Can Carrera), as reported in medieval documentation, although it is also believed to be because it was built on the remains one of the oldest, as, as a result of the earthquake of 1428, it was badly damaged and was completely destroyed during the Catalan Civil War. Rebuilt with many modifications over the following centuries, the fortified entrance, also known as the Porta de Cerdanya, was the end point of the royal road that came from the high Pyrenees counties towards the Girona coast.
